The measurement CFM is ambiguous because gas can be compressed. This means that the volume of the gas changes based on the pressure applied to it. Therefore, to be more specific, the terms ACFM (Actual Cubic Feet per Minute) and ICFM (Inlet Cubic Feet per Minute) are used because they refer specifically to the actual delivery of gas at the inlet.
