Cobblestone

Definition

Smooth, flat stones set closely together with sand or mortar to hold them in place. They are used for paving.

Things you need to know

Traditionally these were used to make roads that were more resistant to wear and tear than dirt roads. Cobblestone pavers are not just made from one specific type of stone, but rather they can be made from a variety of materials, such as granite, limestone, and basalt, and even porphyry, a type of igneous rock.

Cost Considerations

Paving with cobblestones costs an average of $1,100-$1,800 per 100 sq. ft. installed depending on the quality of the materials, compared with $850 to $2,000 for flagstone.

Costs vary greatly by region (and even by zip code). To get free estimates from local contractors, please indicate yours.
